Braunschweiger Shanty-Chor

  • Founded in: 1986
  • Instruments: accordion, drums, guitar, harmonica

The Braunschweiger Shanty Choir was founded on January 1, 1986 by Hermann Strien in the former Hanse City Brunswick Since then the choir is an inherent part of the Brunswick cultural scene. CROSSJACK

The group was formed in July 2003 by two friends wishing to sing traditional shanties. Soon two more friends of historial seafaring joined in. One of them unfortunately had to leave for reasons of health, three more members followed one by one. Crossjack sing shanties with six singers. A capalla - because they intend to keep the original sound as it could be heard on board those days.

They perform with a clean intonation and want to express most authentically the power of work which the shanties were intended for. This way they keep the former sound and stick to it as closely as possible.
