Chor der Kgl. Navigationsschule Timmel e.V.

The choir was founded in 1987 in the Seefahrtschule Timmel. The main reason was to fill the old navigation school with new life and give it a maritime atmosphere.

The choir's repertoire consists of shanties and seasongs performed by 19 singers.

Since 2003 the group from The Netherlands with its four enthusiastic singers is singing shanties and seasongs of the seven seas. Their varied repertoire ranges from original shanties and atmospheric forbitters all performed a capella.

In 2011 the Otterndorfer Shantychor celebrated his 180th anniversary. The choir is one of the oldest in Northern Germany.

The choir was founded in 1982 by 16 members of the Segelsportverein Spieka-Neufeld. In those days they just wanted to support the annual sailors ball with maritime music, but throughout the years success grew and they have become a well-known choir in the region.

Let's get back to 1989.
Dirk-Henning Schnitzler, president of the water police in those days, visits the Düsseldorf Fair "Boot 89" and makes a musical decision: the water police founded a shanty choir. Till then there had not been a shanty choir of the police in Nordrhein-Westfalen and where could it have been settled better than in Duisburg?

In December 1992 the Shanty-Choir Gütersloh was founded. Today approx. 50 active singers, soloists and musicians (three accordion players, one drummer and one bass player) have a repertoire of more than 90 songs. Udo Stender, musical director, aims at creating an ideal mixture of choir and musicians so that not only the shanties but also maritime evergreens - as sung by Hans Albers and Freddy Quinn - can be performed.

The choir was founded in 1988.

Some of the singers are bound to shanty music because of their work at the marine and in 2014 a new member joined them who had finished work at the Gorch Fock.

Currently there are 30 active and 42 passive members. For all of them enjoying singing is the most important thing. The choir, however, does not only sing shanties but also well-known seasongs so the audience can join in easily.

Once upon a time in 1981 seven singers of the Singgemeinschaft Spaden got together and thought about how to found a men's choir. Since not all of them wanted to just be in a men's choir they decided to form a shanty choir. Thus the choir grew up to 33 singers and 7 musicians (4 accordions, 1 guitar, 1 harmonica, 1 cajon) now performing shanties and seasongs for three voices.

Shantycrew Buitenboord was formed in september 2002. Their hometown is Zwolle. They are a group of 6 enthousiastic men singing shantyies and seasongs. They perform in the original a-capella style led by a shantyman. Most songs are English but they also sing songs in French and Dutch.

The Soltauer Shantychor e.V. was founded on January 13, 1999 in Soltau right in the heart of the Lüneburger Heath. The choir stands for maritime songs, shanties of the time of windjammers and modern seasongs. With more than 70 songs the repertoire offers a wide range of songs for all opportunities.

The choir currently has 27 active singers and musicians but also passive members enjoying maritime music have joined in.
